Mortar consistency is tested using a standard conical tool. In this test a cone weighing 300 g is allowed to fall from a specified height to penetrate through the mortar. The depth of penetration of the cone is called its consistency value. It is expressed in mm. Click here to read the test procedure.
Recommended Values of Consistency
The recommended values of mortar consistency for different types of work are as follows.
|type of work||value of consistency|
|For laying walls of solid bricks||90 to 130 mm|
|for laying perforated bricks||70 to 80 mm|
|to fill cavities||130 to 150 mm|
